This past weekend my life has been consumed in learning and practicing the art of lightpainting (a long exposure technique using flashlights to illuminate everything in the image). As a photojournalism student there are a lot of opportunities, but being able to participate in Dave Black‘s Lighting Seminar was an honor. He is one of the best photographers in the technique of lightpainting, working for publications like Newsweek, National Geographic, TIME, and Sports Illustrated with images that are continually compelling. Seriously, his work is incredible. Dave came to speak to our department last semester and an hour of hearing him speak as a guest was such an encouragement and inspiration. This time around Dave visited Biola as a professor. He taught a classroom full of students to take a flashlight and make interesting and unique photography. Like I said, it was an honor to be part of the class and I am looking forward to keep practicing and learning the influence of light.
